He took the Degree in Physics, at the Department of Physics at the University of Roma "La Sapienza" in 1981.From 1984 to 1992, he has been Researcher at the University of L'Aquila. From 1992 to 2000 he has been Associate Professor at the University of L'Aquila. From 2000 he is Full Professor at the Department of Physics, University of Roma "La Sapienza".
His research activity is devoted to the study, mainly by light an x-ray scattering techniques, of the dynamics of disordered matter (liquid, supercooled liquids, glasses, gels, colloids,...).
He is co-author of more than 200 publications on international referred journals and he has been invited speakers at about 40 international conferences.
He serves in different committees of the Department of Physics, the University of Rome "La Sapienza", the Istituto Nazionale per la Fisica della Materia (INFM), the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF), and the European Community.
Since 2000 he is leader of the "GLAS" (Liquids and Amorphous Solid Group) of the Department of Physics, University of Roma.
Since 2004 he is director of the Research Center "SOFT" of the INFM. The center is devoted to the study of the microscopic dynamics in soft matter and disordered materials. At present the research center coordinates the activity of about 50 university scientists and employ a staff of about 25 researchers.
